About Lisa
My Journey
I found my way to the Alexander Technique in 1996, when I was a professional flutist looking for help with performance anxiety. I loved it immediately and it helped me in more ways than I could ever have anticipated. I have been a student of the Technique ever since. Debilitating chronic shoulder pain led me to train to be a teacher of the Alexander Technique eight years later. I graduated from the intensive three-year, 1600-hour training at the American Center for the Alexander Technique in NYC in 2007. I was pain free.
Almost ten years later, in response to oceans of grief that opened up at the sudden loss of my marriage, I turned to the healing power of yoga, and took a life-changing yoga teacher training at Wild Lotus Yoga in New Orleans, where I was living at the time.
Divine intervention landed me in a dance class at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health shortly after that, and I discovered the freedom and joy of Shake Your Soul®: the Yoga of Dance, a creation of LIFE Movement founder Dan Leven. Then I began a deep dive into SomaSoul: Somatic Expressive Therapy, which is also a creation of Dan Leven’s. His trainings were instrumental in bringing me back into deeper connection with my body and my spirit. When I experienced his work, I felt as though I had come home. All my previous explorations of the body through Alexander, yoga, and dance, were suddenly placed in a larger context, one that includes our emotional life and an exploration of how our emotions live in our bodies. Through this work and my continued studies at Hartford Family Institute’s Body-Centered Psychotherapy training program, I have learned a deep appreciation for the wisdom of the body. I’ve learned to listen to the stories my body has to tell about my past experiences, and the healing that is needed in the present day. This work is deeply meaningful for me and I feel called to share it with others.
